To become licensed a foreign degree is often worthless, but check with VA’s state education department via their web site.

You should check with the college that you are thinking of attending. Each state has different requirements. I would think that you would have to have a certain amount of education courses. The college that I graduated from had a program in Art Education. You should speak with either the chair of the Education Department or the chair of the Art Department in a college that you may be interested in attending. You may also be required to be certified and that would require passing several exams. There is also the question of whether or not the degree from your college will be accepted here. The only option that you have is to go to the college that you may be interested in and talk to the Admissions office and the chairs of the two mentioned departments. You can also visit a school in your area and speak with the principal or the assistant principal.

This is from the Virginia Department of Education. All teachers must be licensed, so you will probably have to go back to school for a tgeching certificate, or whatever it is called in Virginia, and apply for the license.

It has this to say about applicants with foreign degrees:

Best thing to do is to call one of those numbers and ask somebody.
